On today’s show, I’m joined by a good friend of mine, Chelsea Baldwin as a special guest coach. Together, we coach Australian freelancer-turned-agency-builder Caroline.
She has built up a nice freelance business and has begun to work with subcontractors to begin scaling her business.
But she’s realizing it’s harder to transition from solo freelancer to full-on agency than she initially expected. Chelsea and I coach her on two critical tasks:
How to get her clients to start treating her like an agency—instead of a freelancer. And how to get the word out about her new agency and start bringing in fresh clients even if she doesn’t feel quite ready.
We wrap up the episode with some really strong advice from Chelsea on getting new clients with Linkedin. Join us on this jam-packed episode.

On today’s episode, we have a coaching call with Denise, a freelancer from South Carolina, USA.
Denise works in higher education and is happy with the way her freelance business is going. But after finding some early success in e-learning thanks to Covid and other factors, Denis is ready to branch out and grow other segments of her business.
Throughout the call, we keep coming back to two critical themes: the importance of building your brand and the power of opportunity costs.
If you want to build new revenue streams into your business but you’re not sure how to go about it without burning out or losing a handle on your current revenue streams, have a listen to this coaching call it’ll be just what you need.

today's question comes from Travis Hostetter. He says, "I'm only a month into freelancing. I've just made $95 with another $500 on the way. The flexibility I have with my time is amazing. But losing a strong W-2 income has been hard. I'm in a position financially where I can be patient, but there are also operating opportunities to earn significant income as an employee. What are some of the biggest pros or positives of being a 1099 freelancer. How can being a 1099 outweigh the W-2 when the taxes are so high?"
He's basically struggling to decide if really this freelancing thing is worth it when there's so many higher-paying opportunities out there.
Today I'm joined by my friend, Adam Wright, and we're ready to answer.

On today’s episode: how can you balance client work with growing your business?
It’s a question we got from James who calls in from New Zealand.
James has been growing his web security and maintenance company for about a year and he’s starting to feel the all-too-common pressure of getting more done in less time.
And since James is at the tipping point with his one-person business, Clay and I share a few of our best time-management tips to help him regain control of his calendar.
Plus, stay tuned to the second half for some really great advice on connecting with agencies for long-term high-paying clients.

Today's question comes from Prithvi in the Millo Mastermind Group.
It's just a free Facebook group of 11,000 freelancers hanging out, asking questions, learning from one another. It's a lot of fun.
Prithvi's question is, "How do I explain to my client that it's going to take time to increase the number of website visitors and he isn't going to get 100 website visitors overnight?"
So it's obvious that Prithvi does maybe some SEO work, some online traffic, or online marketing. I think the real question is like, "how do I manage expectations? I have a client who wants results like yesterday, but I know that real valuable results are going to take some time."
Adam and I will do our best to answer!

On today’s episode: how can you actually get the attention of the perfect audience for your business?
It’s a question we got from Roopika, who called in from India. She’s got a really unique business—you’ll hear more about that real soon—and she’s wondering how she can get in front of the decision-makers to grow her client base.
Roopika’s story just goes to show: you can have the most interesting offering, but if you can’t get in front of the right clients, you’ll still struggle.
So Clay and I give her our best advice for building attention both online and offline and by the end of the show, Roopika’s got a plan. We hope it helps you too.

On today’s show: do you ever wonder how to generate some of the best leads possible?
For most freelancers and agencies, filling your pipeline with quality leads is not only critical to your business’s health, but also one of the toughest problems to solve.
That’s how our guest Morgan feels right now. Morgan’s a side-hustler who wants to take her freelancing full-time.
But until she has a steady stream of client leads, it just can’t happen.
So Clay and I break down everything we know about lead generation—from local leads, to online leads and everything in between.
It’s a can’t-miss episode.

Today's SHORT question comes from Robert. He says, "The past month or so I've been focusing my efforts on LinkedIn." Robert's whole goal is to get leads through LinkedIn. And he says, "It's been super great for getting people in my network, but not so great for getting leads, I get a few people scheduled twice and many noes, and a whole lot that never reply at all." And then he asks for some advice or insight on the process. So we're going to give Robert a little bit of advice on where to go with his LinkedIn outreach.

On today’s episode, Clay said I got a little salty. But it’s only because I’m really passionate about our guest, Logan, succeeding with her agency. Logan has grown her agency fast—15 employees over the last 2 years.
And with fast growth comes growing pains. For Logan, most of the pain comes from managing her team. Today, we help her see how to better manage hourly workers, how to hold team members responsible, and how to build processes that actually work.

Today's question comes from Annie Milner, who was on the show previously. It was great to hear back from her again.
She says, "I have a question. I haven't raised my rates in two to three years, partly due to COVID. I currently charge $75 per hour.
Do you think that's it's too drastic to raise to $85 per hour? Important to note that I quote on a per project basis, so it's unlikely most clients will even notice.
I'm about to write a new contract with a retainer client, though, who actually nudged me about raising my rates. So really, the question is, you know, can I raise my rates? Should I raise my rates?"

On today’s show, our guest skipped out, so Clay and I hit record to discuss something we see a lot of business builders get wrong: marketing budgets.
You know that phrase, “you’ve got to spend money to make money”?
Well, you might have thought: "that’s not necessarily true. I get referrals for free."
But you DO have to spend money in order to predictably SCALE your business. So how can you know exactly how much to spend on marketing efforts next year?
Today, we’ll walk you through a simple formula for identifying just how much you should pay for marketing without taking on too much risk.
